Religious Affiliation of New Congress Out of Step with U.S.

The first day after the longest election recess in 50 years kicked off Wednesday. Although a few races are still undecided, the makeup of the 114th Congress is becoming more clear. Both the House and Senate have more women than ever, accounting for 20% of the House and 21% of the Senate. Seven congressmen and one senator are clergy members, while there are only four scientists in the House and none in the Senate. The religious affiliation of Congress did not see much change, as it continues inaccurately reflect the affiliation of America. The graph above displays the religious affiliations of the incoming 114th Congress compared with Americans.​
