Merry Christmas?

What might a non-Christian say when someone wishes: “Merry Christmas”?

I usually reply: “Thank you, but that it not a holiday which I celebrate.”

This:

o Is polite and gracious.

o Takes advantage of the teachable moment: not everyone observes Christmas, and no one is under obligation to do so.

The most common reply is a somewhat self-concious apology, which I graciously accept.  If the other becomes obnoxious, I state my First Amendment right to freedom of religion.

What seasonal greeting do I use?  “Have a nice Winter Solstice experience of your own choice.”
